Imagine a culturally diverse high school with 41% of the students on free and reduced lunch, over 13 different languages spoken, and the majority of the families being first-generation immigrants. My school is that school. I am proud to be a teacher and Athletic Director in this culturally rich school located in San Francisco, California.
Now imagine six young women who come from different socio-economic backgrounds, cultures, and from all areas of San Francisco having one thing in common- a passion for playing golf.
These six young ladies make up the Girls Varsity Golf Team and I have the privilege to coach them. For the past five years, the Girls Varsity Golf Team has had five straight undefeated seasons and has qualified to compete each year in the NorCal Golf Championship.
The LHS Girls Golf Team is the reigning CIF San Francisco Golf Champions. In fact, the team has won the last five consecutive San Francisco championships. Through their hard work and drive, the LHS Girls Golf Team have proven themselves to be well-deserved champions in San Francisco. Now the girls have an opportunity to put their skills to the test outside of San Francisco. This October, the girls have a chance to play in a golf tournament in Southern California. This tournament is an amazing opportunity for the girls to play in, as well as to stretch their self-growth and their inner drive to constantly get better. With this amazing opportunity, also comes a high cost for the trip. The team has already been actively fundraising for this trip but need more help.
By helping to contribute towards the cost of lodging, a huge financial burden will be lifted off the team's shoulder and will allow the girls the ability to focus on the tournament and enjoy the experience of the trip.
This wonderful opportunity will not only challenge the team's golf game, but it will also give the girls an experience they will never forget. For most of the girls, this will be the first time they will travel to play in a tournament setting and this trip may inspire them to work towards playing at the collegiate level.
