Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a high needs campus with little extra funding to help fund new technology for our class. Currently, we have 12 deteriorating laptops that do not meet the 1:1 ratio needs of the class.
My students are ambitious, tenacious, and smart.
They are also first-generation college graduates to be! They are in desperate need of upgraded technology to assist them in their journey of college and career readiness. Often times, in our search for colleges and careers, 3-4 students are crowded around one computer! Many do not have access to reliable technology at home. They rely on the school to help them gain access to the digital world and the skills associated with it.
With access to more computers, my students would be able to explore their individual interests, apply to scholarships, take virtual field trips, practice digital skills, expand their writing, engage in project-based learning and more!
My Project
Having access to five Dell Chromebooks in the classroom will enrich the learning environment for these college-bound students. The students will use the computers to help them become college and career ready. Having access to computers will assist in a variety of enriching activities. Students will be able to participate in everything from researching colleges, writing essays, completing inquiry-based projects to taking virtual college field trips. Having the computers will allow the students to explore topics and interests in a more in-depth manner.
In addition, having more laptops in the room will allow the students to become more authentically engaged in the lesson by taking control of the learning process.
Students will move from being participants to being the director of their learning.
