I teach kindergarten in a low income/high risk elementary school, We have a full day kindergarten.
These students attend a school where many of the students are hispanic and almost all of the students receive free lunch. Many of our students speak English as a second language and many of my kindergarteners come to school knowing none of their letters, numbers, shapes, etc. We work on social emotional skills as well as academic learning everyday. The academic standards in kindergarten are high, but we try to achieve those while having plenty of fun and working as a team. The school has limited resources, and many classroom libraries are small (aside from leveled readers). As a kindergarten teacher, my goal is to provide my students with the best education possible, despite any and all setbacks or challenges they may face. Any and all help you can provide to help me achieve this goal is greatly and forever appreciated.
My Project
My students need an easel for our classroom that can serve as a work, writing and reading center. With 19 kindergarten students, extra tools are necessary!
Please help us gain learning space!
With this amazing easel, my 19 kindergarten students will have a place where they can read big books, write stories, spell words with magnets, and develop literacy skills that will last them a lifetime!
Currently, our classroom does not have a easel Everyone must use small white boards on their laps when they practice writing words and numbers. With the wonderful easel that we are desperately trying to bring into our classroom, I could have 5-6 students working there at a time on reading texts, writing stories, and building words. With 19 kindergarteners, we need all of the resources, equipment, and space we can get! My students work independently and in small groups during our literacy time. When they are not meeting with me, they must direct their own learning and utilize the skills we practice during their independent time. Knowing I could have a space for 6 students to apply these skills in a useful way would not only help their learning, but also help me manage this large group of students.
It would be utilized at nearly all times of our day because it is so functional. I can already see my students practicing their handwriting on the lined portion of the dry erase board, excitedly reading a big book with a partner, making words with magnets from our word wall, and writing numbers in sequential order with a small group. But, this will only happen with your donation!
