I teach at a low-income rural elementary school in a close-knit community. Many of my students live in single-parent households and are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. However, I can certainly make a difference in their lives and control their experiences during the school day in a positive way.
My students are creative, energetic, inquisitive, and eager to learn.
They love to move, read, and count and need lots of positive attention. From the moment they walk into my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth. I strive to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that will hopefully inspire them to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
The large classroom rug will be used for circle time, whole group instruction, and independent work. It will enhance their whole group learning by keeping distractions at a minimal. Each student will have his/her own individual seating space. Therefore, the rug will help the students learn self-control (by keeping within their own confined space) and learn to respect the space of others. The rug will also give the students a space of their own to move and stretch during brain breaks, etc.
The large classroom rug will help my students learn their letters, sounds, shapes, and colors.
It will help them learn and practice these concepts in a fun and meaningful way! The rug will also be used during independent reading and center time.
