Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most (90%) of our amazing students live below or near the poverty line. About 60% of our students are learning English in school. Sometimes, our school struggles to get the resources we need to teach and care for our incredible students. This makes the job of a school even more important.

Many students we teach experience poverty, but that's just where they are starting.

Our students love to create art and read. They write computer code and even perform Shakespeare. They have big dreams, but they need to work hard now. Help them reach for those dreams!

My Project

My students watched a UNICEF video about children who are refugees and they got very interested in the subject. Right away they wanted to do something to help. My students have been doing research, talking to local refugee support organizations, and brainstorming projects.

After finding out that our local organization is requesting bed sheets and blankets to help refugees set up their new homes, the class wants to hold a donation drive drive-- they just need a little help to get the project going.

They need posters to publicize the drive, books to learn about the experiences of refugees, and towels to get the donation drive started. Help kids help refugees feel at home!
