My students are from low-income immigrant families. My kids come to school to learn but because their parents have to work multiple jobs, sometimes their parents don't have enough time to prepare them a full nutritious breakfast. That's why my classroom becomes their second option to get a nutritious snack so that they can be full and ready to learn. We are a Title I school where we cannot afford to buy extra snacks or cleaning supplies to clean our classrooms due to lack of funding. The project will give students an opportunity to come to a fully stocked nutritious and clean classroom. In order to keep our students in class, we have to make sure they are healthy, happy, and free from germs.
My Project
Our school serves over 500 hundred students with 95% of the students at the school qualifying for free lunch and breakfast. Most of my students have parents who are working multiples jobs to make ends meet and are financially struggling. Unfortunately, due to these circumstances, students often come to school and go throughout the day hungry or dirty from recess or other school activities. That's why it's so important to maintain a clean classroom because when one child is sick, their germs can spread and get other students sick. When students get sick, they have to stay home and that takes away from their learning time in the classroom. It is vital for all of my students to be healthy and for me to be able to provide them with a clean classroom and nutritious snacks. I will use the proper cleaning products to maintain cleanliness and teach students proper hygienic practices in my classroom especially when they are sick.
The body can only fight off so many germs and so we must do our part to make sure that the classroom is clean and that students don't go throughout the day hungry.
Having a clean and safe place for students is so important because aside from their homes, they spend the majority of their time in the classroom. Students are also picky eaters who will rather go hungry than eat certain school foods. I will use the nutritious snacks to provide my students with another option so that they won't go hungry and become unable to focus in class. The cleaning supplies will be used by my students and myself so that we play a part in keeping our second home which is our classroom clean. Clean classrooms and full stomachs create a healthy body and happy minds.
