I am blessed to teach third grade at a wonderful Title I school in northeast North Carolina. Our students are loving, hard working, easily motivated, and care about each other and their success! They thrive on competitions and reaching goals set for them throughout the school year.
Our students get excited, work harder, and stay more engaged in their academics when they are able to participate in competitions also use technology for learning.
We are a diverse school consisting of students and families from various backgrounds and cultures as well as Coast Guard families. They are each unique and have a special way of winning our hearts with their kindness and thoughtfulness. The students and staff at our elementary school has truly become a family to one another!
My Project
After collaborating & analyzing the test results, we've determined that multi-step problem solving is a large area of need for our K-5 students.
I am so excited about this project that will make an impact on our entire population; parents, teachers and students!
This project will provide t-shirts for our students which will be custom made to say "Got Math? I Do! on the front & "Multi-Step Problem Solving Champion" on the back!
We have created a blogspot for our school to be used for any interested student, early finishers and enrichment. We are hoping to begin this math initiative in 2019. K-2nd grade students will complete an optional multi-step problem each week. They will have until Friday to submit their answer in the form of a picture so we can see their work & their thinking. They will also be required to write their answer in a complete sentence using a capital letter & a period. 3rd - 5th grade students will be provided with an optional daily multi-step problem. Each student will be able to follow the blog and log in to post their photo submission of their work & final answer in a complete sentence as well. Each student (K-5) that answers the problems correctly, will have their name entered into a drawing each Mon. Drawn names will receive a math medal and certificate and once a student answers 10 or greater questions correctly, their name will be entered into a monthly drawing to receive a custom math t-shirt we will have made.
I am excited about the impact this project will have on our students. They will be excited & engaged in math to use technology in this manner. Thank you so much for considering our project.
