My students are girls Varsity and Junior Varsity softball players in grades 9-12. The school is an inner city school with limited funding for many programs, including sports. The girls all come from challenging backgrounds and low income families.
The team faces many obstacles including the cold spring weather here in New England.
The girls are very enthusiastic, hard working, and committed despite the difficulties of growing up in situations that often lack parental support.
The girls range in age from 14-18 years of age and are very appreciative and respectful for any assistance that they receive.
My Project
Every year our softball players are told to "dress for the weather " for games and practices. Here in Connecticut the temperatures vary from winter like to summer like to anywhere in between. Often our players don't have the proper clothing to be able to dress in a way that allows them to play softball and stay warm. These under garments will allow them to function on those cold windy days like most of our more affluent competition. This donation will help our underfunded students for a number of years as the shirts will be collected and used again on a yearly basis.
