Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The school is made up of 540 students that are mostly from economically disadvantaged families who speak Spanish as their first language. The children are learning English at school. Almost all of the students start school for the first time without experiencing any preschool, which puts them at an academic disadvantage. The school does not have a lot of family involvement that is needed in order to support students' academic learning at school. My students need all of the support that they can get in order to succeed in school.

The students in my class are all from low-income families that are struggling to meet their basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing.

The students all qualify for free lunch and uniforms. The students live in a very small community; most live in trailers and do not have air conditioning to keep cool in the hot weather. The families are struggling to keep their jobs, and many are migrant farmworkers.

My Project

These materials will help prevent my students from getting sick at school. Students must have the supplies they need in order to protect themselves at school from getting sick.

Student safety is a priority because we must provide a healthy and clean environment for all students.

At school, students can practice and build on habits that will keep them safe from getting sick, like washing their hands frequently and wearing their mask. When students are at school, we can keep the tables clean everyday and spray lysol to disinfect the room.
