I teach in a Title I school in Indiana, where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch every day based on their socioeconomic status.
My students come to school excited and ready to learn, even though school is a struggle for them, especially in math and reading.
Currently, my students are 2- 4 grades behind where they need to be in reading. They struggle with connecting home and school and often don't have what they need to be successful in school. My students like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention.
My Project
Recess is a fun time, especially when we can go outside for 30 minutes and run around. But living in Indiana where the weather is unpredictable, what happens when it is raining or too cold to go outside?
Indoor recess is a struggle for the students and the teacher; giving students games to play with each other will teach cooperation, taking turns, and many essential skills needed in life and keep the noise down.
These games will help reinforce following rules, teamwork, working together, counting, and many other skills we use every day, in a fun and interesting way. Many students are used to being on the computer or tablets but those do not help with social interactions that students will get and need to work on by playing these games.
