Countless studies have shown the benefits of teaching music to students. Unfortunately, so many music education projects have shut down due to budget cuts. I want to expose all my students to music and the recorder is a simple but very engaging way to do this.
My students are great and hardworking.
We are a Title 1 school, so I have quite a few students who can't afford private lessons or even the rental fees for musical instruments. All of my students work hard, but the traditional subjects are still a struggle for a few of them. I would love to provide more instruction in the arts, specifically music to reach those students who might excel. This could be a huge confidence booster for many of my students.
We will use the recorder to begin a weekly music class. My goal is to teach several basic songs along with very basic music reading. The recorder will be for the students to keep so they can continue to advance their skills on their own and comes with an instruction booklet to help them do so.
Everyone has different strengths.
It is extremely likely that I have one or more students who have a talent for music, but this talent may not be recognized without exposure. Understanding music has shown to be helpful in understanding math and giving students who might not be strong in traditional academic subjects an area that they excel in and can be confident about.
