I teach a split level 3rd/4th grade class. The typical day requires me to split instruction while the other half of the class works independently. Access to technology will help the independent work time be more focused and beneficial.
Eighty percent of my students receive free or reduced lunches.
There are only three students that have tested at grade level. My students have a wide range of individual needs in both math and reading. Because of these varying needs, as well as being a split grade class, I am pulled in many different directions and searching for alternative ways and opportunities for learning to occur. My students are very inquisitive and have a great attitude when it comes to learning new things. My school is committed to the success of all students, and it works to make sure that each student is given a chance to reach their potential.
My Project
By adding another Chromebooks to my classroom, I will be able to have most of a grade level working on the online component of the reading curriculum. I will also be able to give students intervention and extension work on the Chromebooks to supplement or enhance their learning. In a regular classroom, there is a good amount of differentiation; however, in a split class I have even more levels that I need to reach in order to meet all their needs. An additional Chromebook will allow me to make sure all my students are getting focused practice on the exact level and skills they need.
Just adding one Chromebook to my class has made a huge difference.
They are excited to practice their skills and they are more engaged learners. I can only imagine the impact that six more Chromebooks would give to my class, and my ability to increase student learning opportunities.
