Help Increase Student Engagement with Technology!

Help me give my students interactive and inclusive technology for our classroom. An iPad, Apple Pencil, and Apple TV will help me to help more students individually and give students more opportunities to interact with useful technology!

My Students

My students are absolutely wonderful and they love to learn! I teach the English side of Dual Language Immersion in 5th grade. My students are energetic, full of energy, and love learning! I have two classes throughout the day with 27 students in each. My students spend half their day learning in English and half their day learning in Spanish. I love to keep my classroom bright and happy and embrace the personalities of my students. This year, I see a lot of deficits in my students' learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many students did not attend their online classes during our COVID shutdown at the beginning of the pandemic and have a lot of holes in their leaning, as a result. Most of my students this year, missed about 1/3 of their 3rd grade year.

My Project

My project is to provide my classroom with improved technology to increase student engagement. As a teacher, it is difficult to keep all students engaged and on task as I am instructing at the board, especially with math. As I am writing problems on the board, I am unable to walk around and assist students as they are working on problems. Having an Apple Tv, and an iPad with an Apple Pencil will allow me to instruct the whole class as I monitor individual work at the same time. Teacher proximity is an effective way to keep kids focused on the task at hand.

My students would be so excited about math if they got to use an iPad with a stylist pen to show the class their ideas or how they solved a problem.

I try to create a safe environment in my classroom where students feel safe trying problems in front of the class, even if they make mistakes. I see mistakes as a part of the learning process and try to help my students feel the same way. Even my lowest students would be motivated to stay engaged so they could use the iPad. As a result of increased engagement in my students, their math skills will improve since they are interacting with the concepts more.
