This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I want my students to become lifelong readers. Reluctant readers many times only need to find a book they like to realize the joys of reading. Research shows that the best way to encourage reluctant readers is to provide easy access to quality, high interest books.
My students are reluctant readers.
They often complain that they cannot find books that they enjoy. Because many come from poverty, they lack the resources to purchase books they like, the libraries they have access to are often outdated, and they often lack the means to find books that will inspire them to read.
My Project
I am requesting a list of books that have appeared on the teens choice lists for 2010 and 2011. These books will provide my students access to books that will interest them. My goal is to make life-long readers out of my students. To do this, I endeavor to create a classroom library that increases my students' access to great books. Research shows that students who read more score higher on standardized tests, have stronger vocabulary, and are more likely to seek higher education. Please help me by providing these books.
The best way to increase students' interest in reading is to provide easy access to high interest reading material.
These books will update my current classroom collection and aid my students in finding books they enjoy. If they learn to enjoy reading, it will be skill that helps them throughout their education.
