Teacher Whitted from Dallas TX is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 3 e-readers with headphones to help create centers in my classroom for students who struggle with reading texts without audio assistance.

The used to be a time when, if you have an issue reading, you had the help you needed. Now, due to budget cuts, many of the literacy programs have been cut from our secondary classrooms. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean students have stopped suffering with literacy issues.
I teach an array of bright African American and Latino students in a Texas public high school in the inner-city of our town.
Many of my students are not well read and often do not enjoy reading lengthy texts. However, I have found that, if my students are permitted to listen to an extended reading, they are more engaged and their level of comprehension increases.
I have been working really hard to bring the type of technology into my classroom that will help my students become more successful in English IV (British Literature). In the past, I have found that creating centers in the classroom helps students stay on-task and complete the work I have set for them to do. Unfortunately, reading/literacy are not a priority in education right now, so, if I don't write a grant for others to assist me in obtaining the materials I need to be more effective, my students don't get what they need. Supplying my students with e-readers will help them comprehend complex texts which will increase their ability to analyze the same texts.
This project is imperative for my students because, as seniors, many of my students are planning on going to college.
Without the tools they need to properly analyze a text, they won't make it through their first year of college. Help me create an environment that will support my students beyond high school by ensuring I can assist my struggling students who desire to push themselves through to college and beyond. Something as simple as an e-reader can support struggling students.
