Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Washington, D.C. public school in Petworth. The majority of our students come from low-income families and many of our students are English language learners.

While our school is accomplishing unprecedented growth in literacy, particularly for our city's demographics, it is crucial to instill a love and passion for reading in our students.

My Project

Read 180 is one of the best reading intervention programs in the country with historically highly successful results. In this class, students rotate through silent reading, workbook, and computer program stations designed to improve their below grade-level reading skills. However we currently do not have enough headphones (with microphones) or computer mice to go around. We need your help! With the correct technology, these students' reading levels can quickly catch up to that of their peers. The computer program is designed to specifically meet students at their level and target the skills each student needs to be successful in improving their reading.
