Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a diverse group of students who have many times felt forgotten. They have the aptitude and want to grow and change their environment to be safe. They laugh and cry and sometimes seem misunderstood, but they just want the ability and opportunity to be successful and not limited to what their environment expects them to be. In my class, I am teaching them to become critically conscious. Understanding their relationship to their environment and how to promote growth and change from within.
My Project
We are working on focused development of critical reading and comprehension skills. The headphones will give the students an intensive learning experience with the ability to grow at their own rate. In addition to being implemented with Google Classroom, groups can be established and work adjusted to fit each individual child's needs for skill development at a level and pace of the student. It will eliminate the peer influence of negative behaviors due to a lack of confidence in their ability to read in a small group setting and provide guidance in helping them achieve measurable goals in their reading and comprehension development.
The ability to understand and use a foreign language will also open doors for the students as they progress through PK-12, and also provide opportunities as they enter college/university/trades/armed forces or begin entry-level careers in the workforce.
