Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first graders are a smart and energetic group of kids who have big dreams and the drive to make them come true! Each one of them comes to school each day with excitement and a desire to gain knowledge despite their poverty and socioeconomic issues.
The students at my school are racially diverse, and many face the added challenge of being English language learners.
They are an awesome group of kids who deserve to learn in a comfortable, resource-filled environment!
My Project
My students are on the verge of learning to be readers! When we were in-person learning, students had every material and manipulative available to help them make sense of letters, sounds, breaking words apart and putting sounds together. Now that they are learning from home they are missing these tools that provide necessary kinesthetic input to help them internalize the strategies they are being taught.
Because of Covid, my students can not share materials, and being without these word study kits makes learning to read even more difficult!
These individual student kits contain magnetic letters and a pre-printed tray, a small dry erase board, markers, a writing journal, soundbox cards, analogy charts, and word wall and alphabet cards with dry erase sleeves!
My students have so many struggles during this remote learning time as it is - please help me give them the gift of reading!
