Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a 6th grade teacher at Columbia Explorers Academy in Brighton Park. Approximately 98% of the students who attend Columbia Explorers Academy are from low income families and receive free or reduced lunch. Many of these children are also from bilingual, Spanish and English, households. I am a first year teacher and I am trying to build up my classroom resources. I have wonderful and energetic students who are eager to read. The students in my class all have various reading levels and I am asking for your help by donating materials that will help keep my students interested in reading by giving them leveled books they will love!
I have developed a guided reading approach that consists of copies of books at different levels and a place to store their books in a listening/ reading center. This will put books in my classroom that all the students can read and that I can use during small group reading lessons. For each level purchased I would receive 4-5 copies of 6 different titles.
