My Students
I have a group full of amazing students, who are bright 6th graders; These students are primarily Puerto Rican or of Hispanic heritage. I teach three sections of on-level classes and one advanced section of English Language Arts. I work at a Title-I school where most of the students are English Language Learners. The students in my classroom enjoy reading, especially books that revolve around their native country.
I use reading and writing as an escape in my classroom.
It is a way for my students to enter another world or even create one. Each student that I have brings something new and exciting to my classroom and together we make miracles happen. Bean bag chairs and rugs will be used for a reading corner, a new pencil sharpener will allow less distractions with a long line for one sharpener, snacks can be given to the many students who are hungry throughout the day, and pencils and cleaning supplies will help with daily academics and classroom comfort.
My Project
Every item that I requested for my class is going to benefit them in a multitude of ways. The goal is to help move my students to their appropriate proficiency level in reading and writing.
I have many students who are ADHD, so options for flexible seating is of great need.
Stability balls, lap desks, and sensory toys will help keep them focused and engaged. Headphones will allow my students to complete their work in the online learning tools that the school uses. Pencil grips, pencils, notebooks are all needed because many of my students need to become better organized being that they have a total of 10 classes and no school supplies at home. Paper, markers, and construction paper are all needed to incorporate arts integration into the class room. It is also a way to complete group activities and increase engagement and collaborative learning!
