This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The students who frequent the school counseling office are diverse in gender, race, socio-economic background and academic performance levels. Some visit the office on a weekly basis for actual counseling. Some visit just to say "hello" to people who are accepting, kind and supportive. Some are visiting to work on the department computers with credit recovery classes. Some are visiting to gain assistance with college applications and scholarships. Regardless of the reason students visit, the school counseling staff strives to make them feel welcome, safe and comfortable.

My Project

With the daily noise in a typical school building the counseling office should be a haven of peace and tranquility away from social media and other environmental noise. However, with 4 full-time counselors, 1 secretary, 1 graduation coach, telephones, copy machines and numerous teenagers utilizing the same general space at my school "noise" can often become a challenge for our students. Obtaining these noise-cancelling machines will help students wait, work, think, speak, listen and learn with fewer distractions. The noise-cancelling machines can also help ensure that others in the same general location do not become privy to students' personal information.
