My Students
My students are a group of fifth graders that attend a Title I school, in a growing Texas school district.
They are made up from a diverse set of backgrounds and include English language learners, special education students, and those receiving free or reduced-price lunches.
While they come from various backgrounds, with various needs, they enjoy engaging and interacting with one another in their learning. Most importantly, my students love coming to school, learning, and being in the fifth grade.
My Project
We are asking for nonfiction reading materials to use during our guided reading time. These materials will give students the practice they need to read and understand the complex, informational texts that we encounter every day. These short nonfiction texts provide students with challenging and relevant content while I will work to guide and teach them key strategies to uncover deep meaning within the text.
With a wide range of subjects and text types, students will expand their academic and domain-specific vocabulary and deepen their comprehension and analytical skills with these amazing materials.
Targeting nonfiction reading and reading strategies is essential as I prepare my students for their future reading lives.
