My students need extra computers in class for research, presentations and educational websites such as Big Universe, that will enhance their reading/writing skills.
My students used to say they hated writing. All that has changed now that I introduced them to a new interactive Reading and Writing website called Big Universe. Now they are writing over the weekend because they want to...it's FUN!
Our classroom situation is unlike most.
We have 38 students in one classroom and the teachers are 2 SISTERS! We consider ourselves, One BIG, Happy Family. Like most large families, we can run out of space and resources. We have to be very creative with both. Many times we split the class into two groups when working in cooperative groups to have room to spread out. Half stay inside, the other half work outside. We love our family of learners, but we would be able to accomplish so much more if we had more technology in our classroom to serve our many children.
My Project
Having access to extra computers in our class would allow students to incorporate the use of more educational websites, and with laptops, it would allow our students to continue their web-based learning without packing in like sardines to gain access. The technology would be able to spread around the room as our students do. Students can read books online, work on publishing a book, do research, create power point presentations, etc. even if they had to go outside. Portable technology would give the students the opportunity to work on their favorite websites, writing, reading and sharing their learning with others around the country.
Imagine if your child was in a classroom situation such as ours and could not have the same amount of computer time that others in a class of 18-22 would have.
Would you consider that fair? All children should have the same opportunities for learning. I love my students and want to provide them with the best advantages for learning so that I may better prepare them for the future. We are one BIG, happy family and we could greatly benefit from one EXTRA laptop in our room.
