My Students
I teach sixth grade science in South Carolina. My school is a Title I school. Roughly fifty percent of my students receive free or reduced lunch based on their household income.
I teach six different classes and they are all different ability levels. Two of the classes are gifted and talented and the other four classes are regular science classes. My goal is to provide my students with all the resources that they need to engaged and successful. Students are the future.
My Project
Having more books in my classroom for students to read is very important. Students need to practice their reading as much as possible in order to become better readers. Students have silent reading time in my class and they also can choose to read if they finish all of their work early.
Reading is a big part of my Science class. We read articles together that relate to the content being taught. I read books aloud that are about what students are learning. Students can choose their own books to read during silent reading time that peak their interests.
Teaching 180 students means there are a lot of different interests when it comes to books. Some students aren't big into reading so I like to have some lower ability books that are more like picture books that are short reads. Some students love chapter books. I want to build my library so that I have a wide variety of books that students can choose from and enjoy.
