Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are great students who deserve nothing but the best. These students are from very low income families and get free breakfast and healthy snacks every single day. These students are so special because they live in the inner city and come to school everyday ready to learn and do their very best! In every lower elementary classroom, students need to start writing. Introducing writing at an early age only leads these students to success, which is why I think it is important for each student to have their very own writing journal! Writing journals will allow my kids to show their creative side!
My Project
When I came to this school, I had an easel. Every class should have a whiteboard/easel. Since we do not have workbooks, or working copiers to make copies, visual aids are essential for providing my students with their assignments, math examples, or even vocabulary/spelling words. The current white board we have is stained with permanent marker and has Velcro stuck all over it. I use it for any and everything imaginable. But last week I was in a rush to write something on the easel before the students came in for the day. I grabbed a "marker" and wrote many things onto the whiteboard/easel. Needless to say the students couldn't read what I was writing because the board was all stained! Ugh! I have since tried every marketed item that touted itself as being able to remove permanent marker. Students can complete assignments in small group. I can use the easel to begin my mini-lesson and students can engage with classmates by using elementary easel to show and explain their work on the board. This will create a sense of independence, pride, and creative thinking.
