Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

While I may not have birthed them, my students are the kind of kids that I am proud to call my children. I am fortunate enough to teach a very special group of students who make all the struggles of teaching in today's world so worthwhile. Most of my students come from low income households and I want to teach them everything that they need to become successful after high school and to make better lives for themselves. They truly are my children.

My Project

My students come to school full of life and ready to learn! Just like adults get tired of sitting in hard chairs all day, students do too! They need more flexible/comfortable seating options to enhance student engagement and learning. Studies show that students learn better when they are physically active and comfortable. Students are able to bounce on an exercise ball, sit, stand, kneel, etc.

Some of the seating options that will be provided with this project are bar stools and a table for them to sit at.

All of these options will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning. The rectangular laptop table that is low to the floor will be used with the cushions or students can kneel at the table if they'd rather.

This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and at home in our classroom. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
