Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The Spartan Girls Soccer team is one of the most driven and dedicated group of students I have ever worked with. I have coached for two full seasons and every year I am amazed by the dedication and camaraderie that is built among my players. Many of my girls do not come with much sport experience. For many, this is the only team they have ever been a part of. As a coach, this means there are a lot of basics to cover, but also a chance to build a strong foundation of what it means to demonstrate great sportsmanship, confidence as players, as well as what it means to be a strong team player.
What I enjoy most about coaching is that ultimately we are not just practicing and playing a sport, the girls are learning valuable skills and building memories that will support them in their futures.
Over these last two seasons that I have coached I see the individual growth in my players. By the end of the season, many seem more confident in themselves, they are more social, they create new friendships and, for some, there is a huge turnaround in grades and attendance.
My Project
As the coach of the girls soccer team, I've noticed that girls sports can sometimes be overlooked. On our campus, it seems that money for equipment/uniforms is dedicated mostly to male sports teams. I understand other sports have larger rosters and perhaps require more training equipment, but I believe that sports serve the same purpose for all, to create dedicated and hard-working student-athletes. I want for my team to be proud of themselves for being student-athletes and to have the equipment that makes them feel like they matter.
Your support in helping us attain this equipment will instill a sense of pride in our girl's soccer team and will also provide us with the tools to participate in more intense training.
The equipment will be used by both the JV and Varsity team during practices and during our pre-season conditioning sessions. One of the things I admire about my players is their hard work and the positive attitude they bring to the field, I am confident that your donations will serve as an extra push and motivation for them to give it their all on and off the field.
