My students need Occupational Therapy materials to assist in their ability to attend in class from day to day.
This project expired on June 13, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
I just began working in a school district that is low - income, high poverty and high crime. The students I work with are young, but have experienced things that I have never had to face. They are so much more than the community that they are growing up in. They make the community they are living in disappear when they are in the classroom and are just kids.
I work with 6 amazing boys with autism!
They are are kind, compassionate, and as our school motto says, they are "responsible, respectful, and ready" for what I have challenged them with. They are also very active and have tons of energy. They love to move around and interact with people and see and experience new things.
Sometimes they tell me that they are hated but I remind them daily that they are very loved by me and in the school community.
All my students are special needs. Throughout the day they are trying their best to focus on the work that needs to be done, but are having difficulties. They have strategies that help them, but they are craving something more.
These materials will not only build muscle but also help to calm and relax and let these students do what they came to school for, learning.
The stabile-T stools build on core muscles and help to keep the student engaged or they will fall over. The weighted lap pad and vest will calm a student whose body and mind are restless. I am hoping these things will allow these students more of an opportunity to succeed.
