Help Get our 4th Graders New Recorders
My students need 50 new recorders.
My students love playing recorders, but I do not have enough for everyone. Currently we have to share them between classes.
My students attend an inner city public school, in an economically depressed area.
My students worry about what they are going to eat next, and where are they going to live when their family gets evicted, again. For most students, school is the most secure aspect in their lives.
For the last 3 years we have offered a recorder band program for 4th and 5th graders. This program has steadily gained popularity among the students. The challenge is acquiring enough instruments to keep up with the growing demand. This program has given students a creative outlet, and an avenue for continued growth and learning. These 50 new recorders will allow everyone to have their own instead of sharing between classes.
If my students are going to make it through college, they are going to have to rely on grants, loans, and scholarships.
Playing an instrument gives them one more tool in their "bag" to help make this dream a reality.
