There is nothing like a brand new book!! Do you remember your first brand new book? With your help I plan on starting four book clubs per class (I have four classes), this means you will be helping approximately 90 children get excited about reading and feel special!
My students attend a small rural elementary school in Kentucky.
Our school has around 70% free and reduced lunch. Most of the students come from low socio economic homes. I have truly been blessed with a wonderful group of kids! Thy are caring and hardworking. I have both fifth and sixth grade Reading, so I have around 90 students per day.
My Project
You can spark their interest in reading! Each time I am able to add new books to the class library the kids get really excited and want to be the first to read them. The trouble is I can't afford to add enough of the same titles to start small book groups, which will help everyone get a chance to read brand new books.
With your help each child will feel special and will be able to participate in small book clubs each week, where they will read and discuss the books. My students will develop a love of reading through the book groups by reading, discussing and working with other classmates to create projects around the books their group has studied.
You will make a difference in their lives as well as several children behind them!!
I hope to continue rotating new books into book clubs in this manner. Several children are not where they should be where reading is concerned, let's change that, one book group at a time!!!
