If you haven't heard of desk pets yet, wait until you hear what it is! The kids get to adopt an animal eraser and keep it at their desk in a container. They can earn other erasers like food, toys, cars for their desk pet! I'm requesting more erasers and containers so that all four first grade classes can earn this amazing reward!
When my students had their adoption day, they were so excited that some of them were nearly in tears.
They love these little desk pets like they are real ones!
My kids earned theirs already because of amazing donors from DonorsChoose! These erasers can be pricey especially with nearly 80 first graders! These donations will be so that all of the kids can earn them.
This is a reward and they are given expectations for being allowed to keep their animal. They must have positive behavior, 100$ effort in all subject areas and classes and kindness and respect towards others. They can earn the other erasers like the fruits, desserts and cars by some of the following: showing kindness and respect, turning in their homework on time, picking up garbage in the school halls and many others.
These desk pets help teach responsibility and other important character traits. Some of the kids become so attached to their desk pets and will even tell them they love them! These desk pets and the accessory erasers they earn will go home with them at the end of the year.
