My students need books to replace those lost in Hurricane Harvey for at home use. Research shows that reading at home, even twenty minutes a day, increases students' success in school exponentially.

My Students
My third grade scholars walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready and excited to learn.
I teach at a Title I school , where 100% of our students receive free breakfast.
Many students also receive backpacks of free food for the weekend. Their parents are single mothers or fathers working two or more jobs to provide for their families. It is important for my students to know I believe in them and care about their future success.
One of my goals is to provide a safe and happy classroom environment. A positive environment frees students' minds to concentrate on learning and reaching their goals, without the stress and pressures that so often accompany their lives at home.
My Project
Many of my students lost all of their possessions in Hurricane Harvey. These possessions include any and all books they had for at home reading. Research shows that reading at home, even twenty minutes a day, increases success in school across all subject areas exponentially. In order for my students to experience this success I have to get these valuable books into their ready and willing hands. This project will give me a large cache of books to give to them to keep at their house. These books will be for them to use throughout the school year at their leisure.
