Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in general education and special education classes. They range in grade level from kindergarteners all the way to 8th graders. They come to see me several times each week to work on individualized goals and objectives. Our goal is to help the students develop the skills needed to transition through each grade level with minimal need for special education support. Our goal is for them to have the speech and language skills to express their ideas and needs and to have the social skills to enable them to form relationships with adults and peers in their community. We want them to have the academic skills to participate in a general education classroom if possible.
My students love to interact and work with each other to help one another grow and learn.
They are caring, helpful and encouraging individuals. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to work with them each day as their teacher!
My Project
My students have a variety of disabilities that make learning more difficult. One of these hurdles we encounter is the need for sensory stimulating materials. The sensory balls will be used to help regulate our student's sensory needs in order to make their environment more conducive for them to participate.
We try and do as many hands-on activities which helps make our lessons more engaging and the information more meaningful to our students.
Therefore, many of the materials that we are asking for are items that the students can use to facilitate an environment in which the students are more inclined to learn in. The Magna-Tiles will be used to bring out the language of the children, as well as, engage them in a hands on group activity with their peers. The barn and animal toys will be used to help the students to visually be able to identify and label animals.
The vocabulary and language cards will be used to help prompt the students in using their words to verbally communicate what is being shown. These cards are crucial in helping the children to understand that there words have value.
The Scotch laminator sheets will be used to create more materials for the students to benefit from!
