My First Graders come from all social and economic backgrounds. I also have students with various levels of abilities. What we all have in common is a love of learning, curiosity, and grit. Some of us may struggle but I notice how caring they are and constantly help each other grow.
I am simply amazed everyday at what my students accomplish in just one year.
Many students come to first grade not knowing their whole alphabet and they leave as readers!
My Project
I love to read aloud to my students and I do it often, but I also love to incorporate it into my students independent learning centers. This is why I love to have a listening center in my classroom. This listening center will keep them learning while I am meeting with a small group.
Listening center is important because students can listen to model reading when I am assisting other children in small groups.
Many of my students are not able to comprehend stories as they read it themselves. My students will greatly benefit from listening to a fluent reader as they follow along in their own book.
Please help me give my students a listening center during small group time!
