Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is my 3rd year teaching in the Bronx, NY. I teach 6th and 7th-grade math to a group of ambitious and excited pre-teenagers. They want to have all the resources available to them that any other student across the world has. My students have very reachable goals and I hope to help each and every one of them achieve those goals.
My students live in the Bronx, NY and deal with many struggles, and they come to school to feel safe and to learn.
Many of my students are the minority. I strive to have a welcoming and warm classroom and need your help!
My students come to school ready to learn and they make me want to get up every day to teach them and make their lives better.
My Project
Covid 19 hitting NYC has put in perspective for me how many of my students don't have technology at home. Transitioning to remote learning put my student's education on hold because they had to wait for the City to provide them with iPads and Chromebooks so they could access our new virtual classroom.
This put in perspective for me that my students need technology in our classroom because for many they don't have it at home so this is the only way they are going to learn how to use it and they are going to need it.
The Bronx district has supplied all their schools with the i-ready program so that we can close the gap in mathematics. The problem is we have limited computer access. I want to bring 3 more iPads into my classroom to add to the 17 iPads I currently have. These 3 iPads will bring me half way to my goal. At any given time I can have a class size of 30 so I would love to have 30 iPads available to my students. After this experience I have learned that some of my students may need to take an iPad home at night to complete their technology based work. I would like to give them that opportunity.
