I am requesting various school supplies for my 28 Kindergarten students. Almost half way through the year, my full day Kindergarten students are still without scissors, glue, sufficient pencils and erasers, and crayons. Currently in our class now, we have 3 pairs of scissors to share between all the students. Not having these resources makes it very hard for my students to learn basic hand and eye coordination, as well as finishing our projects in a timely manner. We recently studied lobsters and learned that they are very large bugs that live in the ocean. When it came to the time when we were able to create our own lobsters, it took a whole day for everyone to finish the project. Having only 3 scissors and glue to share makes it extremely difficult for my students to concentrate on their tasks at hand, as well as really focus on mastering the skill of cutting correctly and hand-eye coordination. During our writing period, we have a very hard time finding everyone pencils to write with. Sometimes that alone can take 10 minutes! Unfortunately, not having these materials does take away from my students' self esteem as well as very essential instruction time. We as a class would greatly appreciate any and all donations that could help us out everyday. As a teacher I find it extremely frustrating that I cannot provide this for my students, as I am suppose to be their teacher and friend. We look forward to when we can do many more activities that are art oriented, as we as a school have no art department or teacher. My students truly think it is a treat when I plan an art activity. I like to offer my students challenging activities, and feel that with these supplies, we could do many more. Thank you in advance for taking to the time to read this proposal.
