Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 2nd grade in a low-income, Title 1 school. Close to 50% of my students are English Language Learners and resources are limited. Many of these students' parents are unable to give them the academic support they need at home. It is crucial that I am giving them the best eduction that they deserve each day at school.
To strengthen my ELL students' English Language Development skills, I am asking for materials that I will use with them in small groups. The picture cards will help build their vocabulary skills. The "Speechercise" cd's will be a wonderful tool to increase their confidence and academic speaking skills. The fluency cd's and book of poems will give students much needed reading practice. The 2 sets of journals will increase students' understanding of correct grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation.
The challenges I face to meet the needs of my diverse students are great, but that is what makes my job as a teacher so rewarding. By funding this project, you will be helping a very deserving group of 2nd graders become more successful in developing their English Language skills.
