My students need flexible seating options in our kindergarten classroom in order to promote engagement, to increase motivation, and to allow options for optimal learning.
My students are among the smartest, brightest, loving and most inquisitive students out there! I have the privilege of teaching kindergarten! Each child enters my room with a different story and background, and my job is to bring them in as my own and create a loving and safe environment for them to learn and grow. My classroom is full of 24 enthusiastic, engaged kindergartners. They come to school eager to learn new things every day. We are constantly pushing forward to meet curriculum guidelines and benchmarks.
My Project
My students love learning and love MOVING! It is so hard to be asked to sit in a traditional seat during instruction, practice activities, discussion, and independent work time. They have asked if we can try to move MORE throughout our school day, and they came up with the idea of flexible seating which simply means that they can choose where to work and can incorporate some movement while they are learning and working. They would like to use the these flexible seating options during direct instruction, independent practice, and during centers. Much like teachers differentiate their instruction to meet the needs of all students, it's time to allow children to choose HOW and WHERE they will learn.
