Help me give my students a STEAM lab with Apple technology (iMac Pro, MacBook Pros, iPad Pros) that will allow them to explore careers in STEM, participate in labs, create/design, collaborate and develop projects.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Imagine being told you have a few days to build a rollercoaster but were not given the tools or instructions for putting the pieces together. I teach courses designed by and for the students. I love teaching this course because it allows me to tailor lessons to their specific needs of improvement and enrich student's lives.
My students are a tenacious, goal-driven bunch!
I have the pleasure of teaching a group of high school students in a Special Education program as well as American Sign Language at an alternative school in DC. It allows me to expose students to cultures, languages, and experiences they otherwise might not get to. Many of my students come from low-income homes and some often experience homelessness. My students range in age from 15 to 22 years old. In my few years at this school, I have seen students go on to achieve things many people said they wouldn't or couldn't. The students have the will, the know-how. They just need the tools. They come every day with their thinking hats on-- eager to learn more and become successful.
This technology equipment will be used to set up a STEAM lab for my Special Education students. My Science, Math and World Language classrooms are self-contained. It is a place where students really enjoy being able to explore the various aspects of science and math all around them. They also enjoy learning about American Sign Language and Deaf culture and sharing this knowledge amongst the school community. This lab has been designed with my students' learning and accessibility needs in mind. Students will be able to participate in activities that enrich, reinforce and support their learning.
With this STEAM lab, l will provide my students with the same access that students in General Education and higher-income areas are afforded to be successful in education and career.
Through each course I teach, students are required to develop 3-4 projects. This lab will give students better materials and access to information they need to develop these projects. I intend to set up 1 iMac Pro with a second display, 1 MacBook Pros, and 1 iPads with Apple Pencil into STEAM computer lab stations for multiple purposes.
Students will have the opportunity to engage in designing and developing science/engineering and graphics projects, developing a community project that will connect STEAM concepts to community activism, participating in virtual field trips, and for recording educational videos for class concepts. Students will also use the lab to access science and math lab simulations and demonstrations, tutorials, and online research. Finally, the AppleTV and document camera will be used to collaborate and share ideas, projects, presentations, and demonstrations during the whole group activity.
