Help me give my students some softness for their reading area, some ants they can observe on a daily basis, some blocks to build bigger, and a classroom set of recorders!
All of my students come from low-income families. A large proportion of them are refugee or immigrant families, and English is often not their first language. Their families work hard to ensure they succeed and are very involved.
Despite many obstacles, my students are eager to learn and grow.
My students enjoy educational toys and games that will help them to learn social interactions, academic skills, and problem-solving. For most of them, this is their first time in a school setting and will set the tone for the rest of their lives. My goal is to create a learning environment that will lead to a love of learning, and help them to become caring, productive members of society.
My Project
My students love to read, but we are lacking in a soft area for them to lounge around in when they look at some of their favorite books. I would also love for them to each have an instrument they can play for themselves, but, due to hygienic reasons, we would need individual recorders. We are lacking in blocks, especially big, softer blocks with which they can safely create tall structures. Finally, my students are obsessed with the living world; having an ant farm in the classroom would allow them to observe animals throughout the day and hone their science skills.
