Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright individuals with a love for learning! I have the opportunity to teach a bright, loving special day class of fourth and fifth graders. My students are first generation, special education students with a range of emotional and learning disabilities with some students on the autism spectrum. All of my special education students are also English language learners and come from diverse backgrounds.
Art in special education has therapeutic qualities for students; it enriches all areas of development and builds self-esteem.
My students love to learn and come in eager everyday. These supplies will help them create presentations, allow us to work on Social Studies and Science, while incorporating art education.
My Project
A lifelong love of learning starts with being confident and interested in the curriculum.
My job as a SPED teacher is to provide a rich environment that allows students with disabilities to have access to curriculum while meeting them where they are at.
Given the support of art materials such as clay, paper, watercolors, paint, colored pencils and pastels, I am hoping to integrate art to create more fun and engaging lessons. I will be able to create more hands-on activities for reading, math and science with these supplies. Having these art supplies will help me differentiate my lessons so that students can be engaged with the curriculum and be excited about coming to school!
I am requesting paint, brushes, paper, colored pencils for students who are eager to express themselves artistically. I am also requesting clay and clay tools for my students to create models and representations of what they learn in history and science. What a better way to learn about the water cycle or about Native American shelters than creating it!
