Help Create a Safe, Comfortable Reading Nook for English Learners

Help me give my students the opportunity to develop their language skills in a safe, comforting environment with books, a beanbag chair, and fidget toys.

My Project

Many students come to us with chaotic home lives, especially newcomers to the country. It's common for multiple families to live in a single apartment. And given the horrors and challenges that come with immigrating, students arrive at school feeling frazzled, untethered, and emotionally raw.

I want to provide a safe, comfortable, language-rich reading nook for English learner students to develop their skills.

I believe that every student has an innate interest in reading stories, yet they don't have many opportunities to practice, given their often-hectic home lives and the trauma of uprooting from their home country.

Saddleback Educational Publishing makes excellent high-interest/low-level books for high schoolers without feeling childish. The set that I'm requesting would be an excellent foundation for the multilingual library I'm building this year. And what good reading nook is complete without a comfortable place to lounge? Fidgets, bean bags, and plushies just help to reinforce the comfort of the nook.
