Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

If you asked any of my 24 first graders where their favorite place in our classroom is, you would almost surely hear that they love our classroom library the best. I do almost all of my direct teaching on the rug in our library. There, the whole class can sit together and be close to me. Then, after I have taught a concept, they can go back and practice it at their seats. Storytime, which is most of the children's favorite part of the day, also occurs on the rug in our library. Unfortunately, our classroom rug is not nearly big enough for our whole class and children wind up squeezing to fit. I am requesting 26 small rugs -- one for each letter of the alphabet. That way there will be room for each child on the rug, and no one will have to sit on the cold floor. Also, I will place the 26 squares in a circle around our "too small" rug and each child will have a different letter to sit on during circle time! Then, when they move to sit in rows for lessons there will surely be enough space for everyone. Furthermore, the squares have pictures to represent the letters, helping to reinforce letter sounds for my little first graders. Thanks so much for your consideration of this proposal. It will make an enormous difference and significantly enhance our favorite part of the classroom!
