Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 25 of the most wonderful first graders in a tough area of the Bronx. Though my job is challenging, I could not love it more. Much of the focus at my school is on reading and writing, which is obviously very important. However, I loved math as a student and want my children to love math as much as I do AND be good at it! There is very little support for mathematics instruction at my school, so I am asking for help to bring more mathematical resources into my classroom. Some of my students, who really struggled with reading and writing, were extremely successful at math, and I want to help them capitalize on that success, which hopefully will bring up their self-esteem as students and improve their academic performance all around. I would like dinosaur counters (which will get my students excited about addition!), a number grid pocket chart, a number line activity center, geometric foam shapes, and a magnetic base ten set. These items will make a HUGE difference in my classroom. Thanks so much for your consideration of this proposal, and if funded, I can promise you a classroom full of excited little math whizzes!
