Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Albert Einstein said, "Play is the Highest form of Research." Here in the media center, we are trying to create a program where students can dream, wonder, discover, and take risks so that they may exercise their creativity and develop skills for the future.
Help us build our Eagles Makerspaces.
Our school is located in an area of Florida with a high migratory, low income population.
Our media center serves a 63% Hispanic population that is 53% female. 90% of our population is bused to school, which means we fight a high absentee rate and a low graduation rate. Our regular school funding must cover necessities that families of other income brackets can provide. When trying to provide the basic necessities of learning, little room is left for exploring more creative and costly forms of learning. For most of our students their only exposure to creativity beyond electives is in the media center. Every creative opportunity we can provide is a win for the students and our community.
My Project
LEGOs encourage our visual learners to develop design thinking through hands-on activities and free imagineering. The Lego wall and table area will give students an opportunity to create with a 3-dimensional, kinesthetic approach, exposing our students to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) projects and student developed challenges while fostering the tinkering and maker mentality aspect of exploratory learning. What could you create if you knew that you could not fail? We want to foster a "possibilities are limitless" global thinking model in these makerspaces. What better way to do so than a LEGO corner in a positive, nurturing, no-fail environment.
We want to see our diverse population transform into future scientists, inventors, developers and technologists who embrace 21st Century professions.
We are preparing our students to be professionals in fields that do not yet exist through imaginative exploration, thinking, and making. You can affect change in our school with your donation. Thank you for supporting the future of the community in Kissimmee, Florida!
