Without a doubt, teaching is what I was meant to do. Every single day I feel lucky to hang out with and learn from my students. They are an extension of my family. My students are hard-working, passionate and curious. They inspire me every single day.
I want their learning materials and environment to be colorful, engaging, challenging, and able to last throughout the year.
Students in my classroom love to learn with hands-on engaging activities and moving all around our room. We play math games, we explore science through labs, and we dive deeper into text with task cards; we move from our desks to the floor and in collaborative groups. Sometimes, these activities can get bent, warped, and ripped in the hands of my enthusiastic learners.
"I'm crazy for color. Colors embraces you. It wakes you up and keep you present." - Fashion Designer Tracy Reese.
I know colored paper, white board erasers and laminator refills may not seem like the most exciting things to ask for; but I can create fun, excitement, and a passion to learn with these simple things.
I can create a classroom that is bright, bold, and can persevere; just like my students! I design as many hands-on projects as I can. Every time we learn a new concept in math, we play a game. I want those games to be bright and colorful so they excite my students and grab their attention. Colored card stock is a great way to make engaging activities that look as exciting as they are to play.
Games, task cards, and project based learning materials are fantastic, but they need to be sturdy enough to hold up against 32 eager learners. Our colored printer uses ink that melts in a laminator; this smudges and distorts the images. Instead, I use a cold laminator to protect science lab instructions, diagrams, and models of cells, human body systems, and much more. I would use the laminator refills, to laminate these types of activities in order to keep the colors from melting. It also helps me save these materials so that I can use them for years to come.
Using whiteboards gives us more flexibility in how move around the rooms. The white board earners are needed since ours have worn thin, the carpet gives us a collaborative and small group space to use whiteboards to work on group projects.
