Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing! They are very inquisitive and creative. Most of them come from homes where most of their budgets are spent on essentials like rent and food. Getting their hands on tools that help them make and create is a real luxury for them in their lives. I want to help bridge that gap by getting materials for our classroom that will allow them the opportunity to build, explore, create and interact with technology. Some of the best learning come from structured play, creative endeavors, and making things from your imagination with your hands. Our current education model has good intentions with its focus on academic rigor and common standards. The problem that arises is where students struggle the most, extra academic exercises are piled on at the expense of rich interactive, hands-on experiences. Learning in science, technology, engineering and math are well served by these types of exploration.
My Project
The students in my class get a lot of use out of our chromebooks.
We do projects, research topics, and use websites that support our learning.
Some of our chromebooks are still doing a great job supporting our learning. Some of the others are ready to retire. We need to replace those that are aging and aren't working so well.
Adding an android tablet to our class will open up new avenues of learning and interacting in our classroom. Students will be able to take pictures, use apps, share their work with the class and many other creative uses that we have yet to come up with.
