I am one of six school counselors at a Title 1 high school with over 1,800 students in Billings, Montana. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and face many different challenges. The students at my school are incredibly hard working and wonderful young adults! We strive to set high expectations for each student and are able to work with students individually and in their classes focusing on academics, graduation, post-secondary and career options, and much more.
I feel that each student deserves to feel supported, comfortable, and safe at school while receiving the best support in academic and social domains.
As one of the school counselors, I want to offer all of my students a welcoming and secure space with tools to receive support that extends beyond their classroom experiences.
My Project
Many of our students are affected by academic and social/emotional barriers every day. These barriers can hinder their education.
The materials purchased will help us help students with coping and calming skills.
They will also provide a calming space that will be accessible to all counselors, our social worker, and our building therapists.
The fidgets, stress balls, magnets, games, cards and more will provide strategies and a time to refocus during each individual situation. By doing this, students will be able to return to the classroom and continue their learning for the day! The tools and supplies have been strategically selected by our counseling team to help our students control anxiety, stress, and strong emotional situations. Counseling supplies help us provide individualized support for our Senior High students.
