Our public school opened four years ago. While we have a new building, we are missing many of the things a school that has been open for a long time has. We are also working to build community with our families who are often untrusting of the public school system.
Our students come from all over San Francisco and are a very diverse group of kids.
The majority of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and many live in public housing. Many of our students struggle with reading, and this impacts them in all of their classes.
My Project
Over the last few years, our school's population has changed. When the school opened there were very few students who spoke Spanish at our school. As a result, our new library doesn't have many books in Spanish for our students.
Help me honor their home language by offering books that appeal to them in Spanish.
My students are always asking for more popular books to read and I want to support them academically in both English and Spanish. Many publishers don't sell books in Spanish so it is challenging to get popular books for our bilingual students. Please help me by purchasing these popular titles for our library.
