Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I get to work with amazing students throughout my ECE-5th grade school! They are excited to learn and express themselves every day. The majority of these students, over 90%, qualify for free or reduced-price lunches, and about 60% are learning English at school.
Our school can struggle to find funding for supplemental materials to give our students the rich educational experiences they deserve.
It's an honor to teach each and every one of my students. I love the enthusiasm they have for school, and want to do what I can to nourish it!
My Project
The students in our Pride Club have expressed a need for LGBTQ representation at our school, and one way we are bringing this to life is by curating a Pride Library available to our entire school.
The books in our Pride Library will be used by teachers for read-alouds and lessons, and by students for independent and group reading.
Our hope is to spread awareness of LGBTQ identities in our school, and to have resources available to students who need them. These books in particular will help more students feel seen and learn more about what identity and family can look like.
